R30 STILL CLOSED AFTER RENEWED FLOODING

Department Extended Closure of R30 at Allanridge and closes Voëlpan next to Nyakallong due to flooding

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport (DPRT) hereby inform motorists that the R30 at Allanridge is still closed until further notice due to the persistent rising of water levels at Nyakallong. This resulted in another closure at Voëlpan, adjacent to Nyakallong.

The appointed contractor is currently on site attempting to do the necessary layer imports to provide a safe, dry road surface.

A temporary bypass has been created with the aid of the Harmony gold mine. Motorists are requested to abide by the road signs and exercise extreme patience when using the bypass.

It is planned to open the R30 by Saturday, 17 December 2022.

The DPRT apologises for any inconvenience caused.

18 November 2022:

DEPARTMENT TO IMPLEMENT CASHLESS SERVICES AT ALL TESTING STATIONS AND REGISTERING AUTHORITY OFFICES

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport (DPRT) would like to inform drivers, vehicle owners and members of the public that cashless services will be implemented with effect from 1 December 2022 at all its testing stations and Registering Offices in the Free State Province.
The decision was taken after numerous break-ins were reported at various offices of the DPRT that handle cash payments. It is also seen as a cost containment measure as the department will no longer need to acquire the services of cash-in-transit couriers.

In general, the safety of clients and officials will be secured as the cashless system will ensure that would-be thieves will now have no incentive to rob offices or attack individuals to take their cash.
As from Thursday 1 December, clients will only be able to use debit or credit cards when making payments at any of the DPRT’s testing or registering offices.

The department apologizes for any inconveniences that might be caused during the migration process to the new system.

25 August 2022:

The MEC for Police, Roads and Transport (DPRT), William Bulwane, in partnership with the MEC for Social Development, MEC Mamiki Qabathe, held a Crime Prevention Imbizo at Phase 6 in Bloemfontein Mangaung Metro Municipality on Thursday 25 August 2022. The community expressed their concerns about escalating crime and pleaded with MEC Bulwane to grant them a satellite police station as it is very far to the Bloemspruit station. Because of that, many people refrain from reporting cases. This exacerbates the situation and add to the mounting crime rate in the area.

21 July 2022:

On 19 July 2022, the MEC of Police, Roads and Transport, Mr. William Bulwane, and South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswynane, met with Councillor (Police) Yu Yuan, Commissioner Class III from the People’s Republic of China.

The visit by the delegation of the People’s Republic of China led by Councillor Yu Yuan comes after members of the SAPS apprehended four suspects within 48 hours after they kidnapped a Chinese citizen on 3 July 2022.

Councillor Yu Yuan commended the SAPS for their rapid response and for safely rescuing the Chinese national. He also expressed support to and cooperation with the Free State, including the Chinese community in the province.

MEC William Bulwane emphasised that the China/South Africa cooperation has demonstrated progressive developments in both countries and Chinese citizens are welcomed to stay in the province. The MEC further indicated to the meeting that crime prevention and law enforcement will continue to ensure people live in a society that is safe, non-violent and where crime activities are reduced.
