It is with profound

Mamello Thamae. Her demise has sent shockwaves through our community, and we
are compelled to reflect on the invaluable contributions she made to the legal
profession, our province, and our nation.

The MEC for the Department
of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae says: “I
am deeply saddened and disturbed by the tragic loss of Magistrate Mamello
Thamae. Her untimely death is not only a profound loss to her family but also
to the entire legal community and our province and country. Magistrate Thamae
was a dedicated and passionate member of our judiciary, who tirelessly upheld
the principles of justice and the rule of law.”

Magistrate Thamae’s
passing is a stark reminder of the persistent issue of gender-based violence
that continues to afflict our society. It serves as a poignant call to action,
compelling us to confront this heart-wrenching reality together.

The South African Chapter
of the International Association of Women Judges (SAC-IAWJ) has also expressed
its disbelief and shock at this calamity. “Magistrate Thamae’s commitment
to her professional duties, her contributions to upholding our constitutional
imperatives, and her dedication to justice will be remembered and
cherished,” Letsoha-Mathae emphasized.

MEC Letsoha-Mathae

ensuring the safety of all our citizens. We are determined to work tirelessly
with law enforcement agencies, community organizations and civil society to
break the silence surrounding this issue and create a safer environment for
everyone, regardless of their gender.

Our thoughts and heartfelt
condolences go out to Magistrate Thamae’s family, friends, and colleagues
during this incredibly difficult time. May her legacy inspire us all to stand
against gender-based violence and uphold the values of justice and equality that
she held dear.

“Together, we must take concrete actions to put an end to this scourge and ensure that no more lives are lost to such senseless acts of violence,” says MEC Letsoha-Mathae.
